I am Alex, a former teacher and animal enthusiast. I joined The Pet Aunty in an official capacity in January 2025 to launch the Grooming branch of the business, but have been an unofficial member since the beginning.

The Pet Aunty was established in March 2016 as a dog walking and puppy day care business, with the ethos of "your pets are treated like family." Natalie and Chris have built a relationship of trust with the animal lovers of Market Harborough. Sharing my life with Chris has meant that I was along for the ride. I have loved every second of it! Sometimes we've taken that ethos literally.

In 2023 I left my teaching job to join a well known, nationwide branch of groomers. I had been a customer there since its opening in Market Harborough and trusted my groomer unreservedly. When a job opportunity came up around the time I was wanting a change from teaching, it felt like it was the perfect fit.

Working alongside my own groomer and training from her was amazing. I built a fantastic foundation for grooming and caring for the welfare of the dogs. Her advice was incredible and we are still in touch.

As I qualified to their in-house standard, I realised that I wanted to provide a grooming service more tailored to those dogs that struggled in the hustle and bustle of the commercial salon. I made the difficult decision to leave the company and set up independently.

I was fortunate enough to know of another established groomer that had her own salon in Billesdon and started to rent a table from her. This is where I gained my Level 3 Diploma in Dog Grooming that build on my experience at my previous salon.

I have always had a soft spot for the more nervous and anxious dogs. The ones that need a little more encouragement and support. I know that grooming is not going to be their favourite activity (how can I compete with walkies and belly rubs?), but I would like for them to not hate the process. I focus on the welfare of the dog and good communication with owners, in order to best support the dog's needs and keep them as happy and healthy as we can. It may take a few sessions. There may be some questionable finishes. But I take the time to build the trust and reassure them that this process won’t hurt, they are safe and they are loved.

I live in a zoo. Currently, as I type this, I have:

  • 2 dogs, one cockapoo and a double coated cross breed.

  • 3 cats

  • 2 ducks

  • 3 guinea pigs

  • 2 giant rabbits (who had 9 babies that are due to go to their forever homes in the next few weeks)

  • A bearded dragon

  • A tortoise

  • 2 samurai frogs

I also have a three legend dog that lives with his Nanoo due to us being an upstairs flat. I have also owned several chickens, praying mantis, leopard geckos, a small business of ferrets and a large mischief of rats.

We are animal mad here and treat all those that trust us with their care of their own as family. Thank you for trusting us.
