Getting Organised!

Hello dog owners of Market Harborough! Alex here after an accidental leave of blog posts. Despite having a good system for trying to keep the booking diary, social media pages, website and my own dog grooms up to date, only 2 of those things have been successful. Oops...

But now is the time to take back the control! There are only 13 Monday's left until Christmas. Yes, I know, we have only just seen Halloween in the shops and now I am talking Christmas. But if you have a good dog grooming schedule, you need to know these things.

Ideally, your dog (regardless of their breed) should see professional dog groomer every 8 weeks. That does include your short haired breeds such as Frenchies and Labradors. This keeps their coat nourished and their skin cleansed. I say a professional dog groomer, because having a hose down after a muddy walk doesn't cleanse the skin in quite the same way.

By seeing your dog every 2 months, I can keep an eye on their coat and skin condition, manage their claws/nails and their paws, check their ears, eyes and teeth and keep up a positive relationship with them. Regular grooming means that they understand my routine with them and they are less likely to be stressed out or nervous.

For busy dogs such as Spaniels, I can manage those pesky feet and ears, keep them tamed, under control and knot and seed free. Especially as the seasons change and we go from the warmer, dryer weather, to muddy walks softer ground.

For shedding dogs, such as collies, shepherds and retrievers, now is the time to blow out that coat and get it tidy! Don't wait until you are drowning in fur and they have knots on their bellies, Get that fur under control now!

If your dog has longer fur, such as a cockapoo, cavashon or shih tzu, they may have gone shorter in the summer and you are debating longer in the winter. This means that their coat needs a little more attention and management. Regular brushing, along side regular grooming slots means that knots are managed and coats are cared for.

But there are still 13 weeks until Christmas, why is this relevant now?

Booking now means that you can plan everything else in the holiday season and know that the dog is one less thing you need to think about. Booking early, means that you can have the slot you want, rather than working out schedules and leaving meetings early or arriving late because that was the only slot available.

If your dog needs a little more reassuring because they are nervous or anxious, booking early means that your dog can be as clam and relaxed as possible at their appointment. It may not be their favourite place to be, but they don't dislike the time that I spend with them reassuring them that they are safe and cared for.

So use the rest of September to get yourself organised for the holiday season and then cosy up with a pumpkin spiced beverage (or not if that isn't your thing) and an autumnal blanket so you can think about the kid's Halloween costumes, knowing that they dog is sorted.
